This set has the most playability of all of the sets we got this year. It is cleverly designed with a working winch under the helicopter, a rear ramp, rotating propellers, and wheels on castors that can go in any direction.
Along with the helicopter, the set also includes a submersible, a treasure crate, a shark, and three minifigures. I love that they included a woman in the deep-sea set, although, since she is a scientist, they have her wearing glasses. Lego does have a problem with stereotyping the few women they include in their sets. I believe this is the same minifigure they have in the volcano starter set. Is there only one female scientist in Legoland?
The submersible has two claw arms to grasp the treasures it finds on the ocean floor. The arms are pretty small, limiting their usefulness though.
In order to access the pilot, you need to remove the front of the helicopter. The winch is activated by a dial on the right side. A ramp in the rear opens to allow access to the cargo area. Side doors open to allow access to the crew area. All of the decorative pieces are stickers, None are printed.
The completed set looks great. The sharks are a fun touch on these deep-sea sets.
